5-19 Activity Centres

West View Project works in partnership with Changing Futures North East, Belle Vue Sports and Community Centre and Wharton Trust to deliver after school activities for children and young people aged between 5 and 19. This contract has an outreach element which aims to divert young people into positive activities.

Positive activities have previously proven to be successful in engaging with children and young people to support their resilience, confidence, aspirations and wellbeing. The need for positive activities was originally highlighted within the early intervention strategy. The provision of positive activities continues to be a key part of the delivery of the early interventions strategy, strengthened with an outreach team to identify these young people requiring further support and engage them at an early stage.

The process of delivering the service is proving a rewarding process for all organisations involved as well as for children and families who are benefitting from the service. All of the groups involved are established and well known in their communities, delivering this service also allows for family links to be strengthened and parents are supported to play an active role in their children’s learning and development.

All sessions have an open door policy and any child or young person can attend the age appropriate session. There are instances when a child or young person requires further support to attend and engage in the sessions, in this instance a referral is made to the service. This is done by the Early Help team, Social Care, Schools or by Activity Centre staff if the need is highlighted here.

Referred children and young people receive additional support within sessions. An individual personal plan is completed with the child or young person to monitor their progress in the sessions. Goals are set within the plan based on referral information and identify positive changes the children and young people would like to be supported to make.

As part of the referral process, activity centre staff will meet with parents at a home visit and attend any meetings relating to the referred child to feedback on their progress within the activity centre.

If you require further information or wish to refer a young person to the project please contact Lindsay Hildreth 01429 272699 This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.

As part of the above offer our sessions run over 5 nights a week and are open door access.

We ask that parents/guardians bring & collect children from the Junior sessions (particularly younger ones) on their first session so that they know children settle and so that we can have a completed consent form.

Attendance at all sessions is 30p per session and we operate a tuck shop which offers sweets, crisps & drinks, we also offer a small range of hot food.

Activities in sessions vary, but our facilities include, Arts & Craft equipment, Sports Equipment, Computer Games, Board Games, TV & space to chill out, and plenty of space to talk to friends and workers.
